Ocala Central Florida Area
The Ocala area in Central Florida is full of possibilities to play golf. Many cater to the 55+ population that live in the area by offering courses that can be customized to your own need and abilities. All have the feel of being somewhere else. This is one of the horse capitals in America. It is quite common to see a herd of horses running across the fields as you travel the area.
The Eagle Ridge Golf Club at Spruce Creek is part of the Del Webb housing development located in Summerfield, Florida. The development has many amenities including a 36-hole golf course. Terry Doss, the Executive Director of golf operations, designed the golf course. Eagle Ridge at Spruce Creek has 4 distinct 9-hole courses. The Heritage and Champion Courses opened first in 1998. Then the Masters Course opened in 2001, with the Memorial Course added in 2003. Each course is somewhat unique, so the different combinations are sure to customize your golfing desires. The Champions and Heritage combination is the most forgiving, but provides over 7000-yards of play. The newer courses are the toughest. Each course features rolling terrain with numerous trees, ravines and waste bunkers to complicate play. Many bunkers surround large undulating greens. There are 6 tee boxes on each hole for you to vary your game each time played.
Lake Diamond Golf and Country Club is located in Ocala, Florida. The Course was designed by Miles Anderson and opened in 1998. It is reminiscent of the courses set in Carolina with the trees and hilly terrain. It is recognized as the course with the Highest Slope Rating in Marian County. The 6650-yard, par-72 course followers the shores of Lake Diamond. There are 4 tee positions, and a number of water and sand hazards to challenge your game.
The Lakes of Lady Lake is located in Lady Lake, Florida. John Adams and Steve Nugent designed the 4174-yard, par-63, 18-Hole Executive course. It has a number of hazards to make the course interesting.
Pine Oaks Golf Club in Ocala, Florida is an affordable 27-hole course, designed by Ron Garl and opened in 1987. The East Course is a 3095-yard, par-35 course. The South is a 3228-yard, par-36 course. The North is a 3305-yard, par-36 course. They have the distinctive feel of a design by Ron Garl. The East course is narrow and tree-lined, while the South was an old farm field so it has wide flat fairways. The North is the most difficult. The University of Florida gave the Distinguished Alumnus Award to Ron Garl in 2003. His philosophy is to make the course “sit softly on the land.” To do this, he carefully lays out a course to work with the natural terrain, and habitat of an area. In this course the result is a course that is environmentally friendly, which has been his goal since the beginning of his career. If you have played any of his other courses you will not be disappointed!
SummerGlen Country Club is located in the adult community in Ocala, Florida. The course has 4 tees, and is between 4933 and 6673-yards long. It opened in 2000. It is pretty quiet and slow paced. It provides as an enjoyable game for the average golfer. The course has wide fairways with an abundance of sand traps ready and willing to get your ball!
