The San Diego, California golfing community has grown from both the growth of population and the increase in tourism. Its warm climate, ocean breezes, and natural beauty have drawn people to the golf courses in the area.

Bonita Golf Club course has been at its current site since 1981. As has happened often in California, the original course was taken over by the shopping center and a freeway. It is a course with the Sweetwater River running through 8 holes with a pond located by the last two holes.

Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club is a semi-private course located 25 minutes from San Diego. It has been a site of the U.S. Open qualifier, so you will find the course in great shape. It offers elevation changes, water hazards, and fast greens to challenge the golfer who like to incorporate strategy.

Cottonwood Golf Club opened in 1962. It has 2 courses - the Monte Vista, and the Ivanhoe. Both have rolling hills and wide vistas as part of their appeal. The Monte Vista has small greens and is a tight course, while the Ivanhoe plays longer and has been used a qualifier for The Buick Open.

The Chula Vista Municipal Golf Club is located in Bonita. The Sweetwater River comes into play on many holes. This river, plus three lakes, makes the course beautiful and difficult. With a slope rating of 120 to 130 the course can be very challenging.

Eastlake Country Club is a Ted Robinson course in Chula Vista. The design showcases open fairways lined with 900 trees, six lakes and 72 bunkers. It opened in 1991 with spectacular views of Mount Miguel.

Eagle Crest Golf Club is a 3½ star course that is positioned San Pasqual Valley in San Diego County. It has a wildlife preserve that wanders throughout the course with natural features accenting the course. You will find a series of challenging holes for all skill levels.

Fallbrook Golf Course is one of the few courses owned by an individual. It is a fine 18- Hole course. In 1999 it hosted the first Futures Golf Tournament for the LPGA. It is a regulation length course lined with mature oak, sycamore and eucalyptus trees and difficult sand and water traps.

Lomas Sante Fe Executive Course is a Robert Trent Jones’ Course set in a spectacular ocean setting! You feel the breeze blowing as you see the wonderful coastal views. It’s only 2404 yards off the blue tees, but that’s why it is a treat for the whole family. It is the sight of the 2007 and 2008 Junior Worlds tournament for 9 and 10 year olds. It is located close to the private Lomas Sante Fe Country Club and is in Solana Beach.

Mission Trails opened in 1964. Designed by William Bell it has two distinct areas on it 18-hole course. The front nine traverses the valley, and the back nine follows the Lake Murray shoreline.

Pala Mesa Golf Resort has been recognized with a 4½ star rating by Golf Digest. It is considered one of the top 200 courses in the country. With a slope of 131 and tree-lined fairways, and fast greens it is surrounded by spectacular mountain views.

Riverwalk Golf Club was famous in the 50’s and 60’s as the Stardust Country Club. It hosted the PGA tour and was extremely well known. As time went by and other courses took its place, the course needed to change. In 1997 the new look was unveiled. It still has the same layout, but has added rolling terrain and faster greens. Water comes into play on 13 of the 27 holes, with the San Diego River playing a prominent part.

Tecolote Canyon Golf Course is located in the beautiful Tecolote area of Clairmont Mesa in San Diego. Designed by Robert Trent Jones it opened in 1964 as a longer executive course offering elevation changes, challenging tees and greens. Southland Golf Magazine listed the course as the “Best Challenge at an Executive Golf Course”.

The Vineyard at Escandido is designed by David Rainville and opened in 1993. It is one of the most beautiful courses in the area. Containing 5 lakes, and winding through the vineyards and wetlands of the area it is as spectacular to see as to play. The wildlife preserve is also prominent and provides a spectacular touch. It has a lighted driving field, and target greens. There is also a practice putting green.

The Welk Resort San Diego is 36-hole course. The Fountain Course has been the scene of the Junior World Golf Championship for many years. It is one of the best short courses in San Diego. The Oaks Course is lined with 100 year-old oaks. It is a great course for the whole family and all skill levels.
